Karmi is a Chartered Planner of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Advisory Council for the Philippines. She is a Vice President of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) for 2015 to 2016.
As a Managing Partner and Head of the Urban Planning Team of Palafox Associates, Karmi has overseen landmark projects including the development and zoning plans for cities, provinces and islands, as well as master plans, streetscape designs and place-making projects. She has been at the forefront of discussions about laws that would affect development in the Philippines and advises the chair of the country’s Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing, and Resettlement on issues in real estate, post-disaster rebuilding, housing policies, and solutions for informal settlements. Her achievements in urban planning have been recognized by ULI in New York, when they chose Karmi as one of the awardees of Urban Land’s 40 Under 40 for 2014.
Karmi holds a Masters degree in Industrial Economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific, and a Masters degree in Urban Planning from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. She completed the Advanced Management Program at the University of Asia and the Pacific and IESE Barcelona.
